Fulham's assistant coach, Luís Boa Morte, will soon leave the London club.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Boa Morte will begin his solo coaching career by becoming the new head coach of the Guinea-Bissau national team.

It is expected that Boa Morte will sign a contract until the end of the qualification cycle for the 2026 World Cup.

Boa Morte will replace Baciro Candé, who has been coaching Guinea-Bissau since 2017. Under his leadership, this modest team has qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations three times. Before Candé, they had never qualified.

As a player, Boa Morte played 296 matches in the English Premier League, scoring 29 goals and providing 28 assists. He played for West Ham, Fulham, Southampton, and Arsenal.

In the World Cup 2026 qualifiers, Guinea-Bissau is in the same group as Egypt, Burkina Faso, Djibouti, Ethiopia, and Sierra Leone. In the first two rounds, they earned 4 points by defeating Djibouti (1-0) and drawing 1-1 against Burkina Faso.
