The English cricket team player Jack Leach will undergo surgery on his left knee after sustaining an injury during the test series in India.

Leach participated in the test series but was sent home after injuring his knee, which swelled up. He left the England team's base in Abu Dhabi, where they had a mid-season break.

Speaking to BBC 5Live, Leach said he would undergo surgery:

"I need to have surgery to remove the remaining swelling because it's not going away.

It was a pretty unfortunate situation. It was the second ball of the first opportunity in the field, so I played the whole game with a knee issue. Obviously, I aggravated it a few times throughout the game, leading to a prolonged recovery period.

I need to have the operation, and then hopefully, I can return to cricket. I really want to get back and find my rhythm again, and hopefully, that will happen once I sort everything out."

Leach's absence means that his role will be taken over by the inexperienced Rehan Ahmed, Tom Hartley, and Shoaib Bashir.
