In addition to outstanding performances, Liverpool's 2-0 Premier League victory over Manchester City on Sunday featured a heated altercation between Mohamed Salah and City's Bernardo Silva.

Salah, who scored his 11th goal of the season in the win, was involved in a confrontation with Silva in the 81st minute after the City player kicked the ball while Salah was on the ground. This sparked an intense verbal exchange between the two, with Salah getting up to push Silva away. The altercation was quickly broken up by players from both teams.

Many fans were taken aback by this occurrence because Salah is usually calm on the field. The two athletes appear to have a longer relationship together, dating back to 2020. Silva said that Salah was given preference in award decisions by the PFA during a live Instagram broadcast, claiming that players like Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne were passed over in spite of their outstanding achievements.

Tension between the players had also flared in previous encounters, including during a match in March, where Salah argued for a penalty after a tackle by Nathan Aké, leading to a heated exchange with Silva. The two have clashed on multiple occasions, highlighting an ongoing rivalry.

Salah's form is still excellent despite the hostility; with 11 goals this season, he is within striking distance of leading scorer Erling Haaland, who leads with 12 goals.
