Hans-Joachim Watzke, the CEO of Borussia Dortmund, is set to leave the club, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Watzke, a 64-year-old executive, will remain in his position for the next season, and in the summer of 2025, when his contract expires, he will step down.

Watzke is considered a true legend of Borussia Dortmund. From 2001 to 2005, he served as the club's financial director, and since then, he has held the position of CEO for 19 years. It is widely acknowledged that Watzke played a crucial role in saving the club from bankruptcy at the beginning of the current century.

The name of Watzke's successor has not been disclosed at this time.

Borussia Dortmund is facing a challenging season in the Bundesliga. After 16 matchdays, they are currently in fifth place. In the UEFA Champions League, under the management of Edin Terzić, the team surprisingly topped their group, outperforming PSG, AC Milan, and Newcastle United.
