End of an era! Ciro Immobile retires at 36

Ciro Immobile has announced his immediate retirement from professional football.

Details: According to Fabrizio Romano, the 36-year-old Italian striker has decided to step away from the game following his departure from Paris FC, despite his contract running until the end of the 2026/27 season. The legendary forward’s final club was the French outfit, whom he joined in February this year after a brief stint with Bologna.

Immobile’s career will go down in history: 320 goals in 650 appearances, four Serie A Golden Boot titles, the 2020 European Golden Shoe with a 36-goal season, and the status of Lazio’s all-time leading scorer with 169 league goals. The crowning moment was winning Euro 2020 with Italy, although he later stepped away from the national team after their failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.

Interestingly, Lazio had already offered their legend a management position at the club after his playing days, meaning Immobile could remain in football, just in a different capacity. Italian football bids farewell to one of the most prolific strikers of his generation.
