End of an era? América unlikely to renew Néstor Araujo's contract
The future of Néstor Araujo at América seems sealed. The defender, whose contract expires in June, is not part of the azulcrema board's plans for the next season. According to ESPN, the club has decided not to renew his contract due to his high salary, age, and performance in the last tournament.
Araujo, 32, joined América in 2022 after his stint with Celta de Vigo and became a key player in the Águilas squad. During his time at Coapa, he won multiple titles, including the Liga MX and the Supercopa. However, internal competition and his recent dip in form have relegated him to a secondary role.
The defender started his career at Cruz Azul and had a successful spell at Santos Laguna before making the leap to Europe. Now, with his imminent departure from América, his next destination remains a mystery.
