As Pumas kicks off the Apertura 2025, a new name is gaining ground in the squad. With Robert Ergas leaving the club and Colombian Álvaro Angulo expected to join, 20-year-old academy product Emiliano Villaseñor is making a strong case to claim the fullback spot at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario.

Villaseñor impressed during a recent friendly against Leganés, earning praise from head coach Efraín Juárez. “The coach doesn’t hand anything out to academy players—we earn it. We’re proving ourselves, and here are the results,” said the young defender, reflecting his hunger and self-belief.

Though Angulo is expected to start, Villaseñor will compete for minutes alongside Pablo Monroy and Pablo Bennevendo. He understands what it means to rise through the ranks at Pumas and is determined to make his mark.

With the fullback role being a persistent issue for Pumas in recent tournaments, Villaseñor could be the homegrown solution the team has long been searching for.
