Emelec Sets Sights on Ecuador International Alan Franco for Mid-Season Boost
Ecuadorian club Emelec is making a bold move in the transfer market, targeting national team midfielder Alan Franco for a potential return, according to Bolavip. Currently playing for Atlético Mineiro in Brazil, Franco has become a regular in Ecuador’s squad during the World Cup qualifiers and would represent a major reinforcement for Emelec’s struggling midfield.
The challenge is significant. Franco recently extended his contract with Mineiro through 2027 and earns over $2 million per year. The Brazilian club is unlikely to agree to a loan deal, considering only a permanent transfer. Emelec, hoping to land a major sponsor, would need substantial financial backing to make the deal happen.
Franco’s return to Ecuador seems improbable at the moment, but the club remains optimistic. His arrival would be part of a broader effort to rejuvenate the squad following a disappointing first half of the season. Emelec is also evaluating a potential coaching change, with Jorge Célico under pressure. Interim candidates include Marcelo Zuleta and former players like Óscar Bagui and Juan Carlos León.
Alongside Franco, Emelec is eyeing a list of experienced players such as Ángel Mena, Miller Bolaños, and Sebastián Rodríguez as part of an ambitious plan to restore their competitiveness in LigaPro.
