Elyes Skhiri announces his retirement from international football

The captain of the Eagles of Carthage has decided to turn the page on his time with the Tunisian national team at the age of 31.

Elyes Skhiri will no longer represent Tunisia on the international stage. The midfielder announced on Thursday that he was bringing his international career to an end. The now former captain of Tunisia is moving on after 11 years with the Eagles of Carthage.

Elyes Skhiri’s career with Tunisia was marked by 86 caps and four goals scored. The midfielder took part in 3 FIFA World Cups and 4 Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

In his farewell message posted on social media, Ellyes Skhiri expressed his pride at having represented Tunisia on the international stage.

“It is time for me to announce the end of my international career.

Wearing this shirt and representing my country has been a source of immense pride and a great honour for me. The emotions, the moments we shared and all those memories will remain etched in my mind.

The chance to represent my country in the biggest football competitions, through my participation in 4 editions of the Africa Cup of Nations and 3 editions of the World Cup, has been a privilege and an opportunity that will remain forever etched in my career.”
