Elye Wahi’s Late Double Fires Nice Past Saint-Étienne to Secure Ligue 1 Survival
Elye Wahi produced a decisive late burst of goals as OGC Nice sealed a 4-1 win over AS Saint-Étienne in a high-stakes relegation playoff tie.
After a tense 0-0 draw in the first leg, the return fixture was played behind closed doors following crowd disturbances in Nice’s final league match, adding extra pressure to an already tightly balanced tie.
Nice eventually broke through in the second half when Jonathan Clauss put them ahead in the 62nd minute, only for Saint-Étienne to respond through a penalty converted by Zuriko Davitashvili.
The visitors’ hopes of turning the tie around faded late on as Nice struck twice in quick succession, with Kail Boudache restoring the lead before Wahi took centre stage. The young forward scored two late counterattacking goals to put the result beyond doubt and secure Nice’s Ligue 1 status for another season.
