Reports reveal that the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has declined Al Ahly’s recent request to appoint a foreign official to lead the Referees Committee. Al Ahly had submitted a formal letter to the EFA, urging the association to “quickly appoint a qualified foreign expert to oversee and manage the Referees Committee.”
In response, a source from the EFA explained, “We cannot currently hire a new head of the committee as the FA elections are approaching. The upcoming elected board will have the authority to make such decisions, per the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ guidelines.”
The source also urged Al Ahly and other clubs to support the current Referees Committee, acknowledging that “errors occur in leagues worldwide,” and adding, “We trust our referees because they are honorable.”
The Referees Committee is currently headed by Mohamed Farouk on an interim basis, following the departure of Portuguese official Vítor Pereira.
