On Saturday, August 10th, the final of the modern pentathlon took place at the Paris Olympics. The competition included five disciplines: fencing, equestrian show jumping, swimming, running, and shooting.

The gold medal, after all the disciplines, was won by Egyptian Ahmed Elgendy. His performance earned him 1,555 points, setting a new world record in modern pentathlon.

The silver medalist was Japan’s Taishu Sato (1,542 points). The bronze went to Italy’s Giorgio Malan (1,536 points).

It's worth noting that this is Elgendy's second Olympic medal in his career. At the Tokyo Games, the Egyptian won silver.

This is the first gold medal for Egypt, as well as for Africa as a whole, in modern pentathlon.
