Egyptian Club Pyramids FC Overcomes Angolan Air Turbulence, Secures Historic Quarterfinal Spot
Pyramids FC’s trip back from Angola became a difficult experience when their plane hit severe turbulence, forcing them to make an emergency landing in Luanda. The team had just won an important 1-0 match against Sagrada in the CAF Champions League, securing their first-ever spot in the quarterfinals.
The hired aircraft ran into large air pockets while departing Angola, which resulted in a reduction in cabin pressure. Some players fainted as a consequence, while others had minor injuries. Officials in Angola promptly granted the crew permission to return to the nation without requiring new visas, guaranteeing them prompt medical attention and lodging in Luanda.
Plans to leave were delayed because the plane needed to be checked, and bad weather continued. The Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, kept a close eye on the situation, working with the embassy and making sure medical teams were prepared for their return.
The crew eventually continued its journey, making a transit stop in Nigeria, and is anticipated to reach Cairo following a 10-hour flight. Marwan Hamdy's game-winning goal was a turning point in Pyramids FC's CAF Champions League campaign, and the team celebrated their historic accomplishment in spite of the challenges.
