Egypt: No AFCON for Omar Fayed
The young Arouca center-back, Omar Fayed, will not play in the AFCON in Morocco. While considered one of the most promising talents of his generation, Fayed is not included in the preliminary 45-man squad selected by Hossam Hassan.
This is a notable absence, especially considering that Mohamed Abdelmonem and Emam Ashour, both sidelined for extended periods with injuries, are included. On loan to Arouca from Fenerbahçe, Fayed is experiencing a mixed season in Portugal.
The 22-year-old has only played four matches in all competitions for Vasco Seabra, three of which were in the league, without scoring a goal. Egypt had considered calling him up for the Arab Cup scheduled to be held in Qatar, but the Portuguese club refused to release him for the tournament.
