Eddie Howe comments on Joelinton’s situation and why he is not playing
In the EFL Cup quarterfinal, Newcastle faced Fulham and secured a narrow 2–1 victory, but Joelinton was absent from the match, and the reason is now known.
Details: The Magpies’ head coach Eddie Howe explained that the Brazilian midfielder is dealing with a fitness issue, specifically a groin problem.
Quote: “Joelinton is recovering from a groin injury. He is fit to a certain extent, but we would only use him in an emergency situation. For example, to defend a corner in the closing minutes of the match. He is training, but perhaps not completing every drill at full intensity,” Howe said.
The midfielder has spent the last two matches on the substitutes’ bench. In their next game, Newcastle are set to face Chelsea on Saturday, 20 December.
Reminder: The draw for the EFL Cup 2025/26 semifinals has taken place, and it is now known who Newcastle will face in the next round.
