Duván Vergara Linked to Racing as Agent Denies Independiente Rumors

Reports of a transfer tug-of-war between Racing and Independiente for Colombian winger Duván Vergara have been firmly denied. In an interview with journalist César Luis Merlo, Vergara’s agent, Kormac Valdebenito, stated, “There’s nothing from Independiente, I don’t know where that came from. Yes, there’s a negotiation with Racing,” confirming that talks are ongoing only with La Academia.
Vergara, currently with América de Cali, has been in fine form throughout 2025, tallying eight goals and three assists across 25 appearances. América’s head coach, Jorge da Silva, addressed the speculation, emphasizing that the forward remains committed: “He’ll finish the tournament with us. He’s focused and performing at a high level.”
Per TyC Sports, Racing hopes to leverage a $2 million debt América owes for Juan Fernando Quintero’s transfer, potentially reducing the financial burden of acquiring Vergara. The player fueled speculation recently with a social media post reading “The last dance,” interpreted by fans as a farewell hint.
Vergara, who had a short stint in Argentina with Rosario Central in 2019, has since emerged as a key figure in Colombia, even wearing the captain’s armband on occasion. His natural position as a left winger matches one of Racing’s squad priorities.
América de Cali remains in contention for the league title, sitting second in Group A with five points and a game in hand over leaders Independiente Medellín. A final decision on Vergara’s future is expected once the Colombian championship concludes.
