The new queen of sailing. Dutch yachtswoman to break Olympic medal record
The medal race in sailing at the Olympics in the ILCA 6 classification will take place on 6 August. This race could bring us another record-breaking medal race at the Games.
This will be Dutch sailor Marit Bouwmeester. After nine preliminary races, she was in the lead, and the final, tenth race was cancelled. According to Reuters, after the ninth race it was decided to distribute the medals immediately, so the organisers awarded the gold to Bouwmeester.
The 36-year-old Dutch yachtswoman has been competing at the Olympics since 2012 and has already won a silver medal there. At the Tokyo Games she won gold, and at the Tokyo Olympics she had to be satisfied with bronze.
The most successful woman in sailing is Britain's Hannah Mills, who also has three awards, but two of which are gold.
The final race in sailing will take place on 6 August at 15:00 CET in Marseille.
