Antonio Conte has been silent for months. Now, in a rare and revealing interview, the serial winner has finally spelled out what he wants from his next job, and it sounds less like a career move and more like a rescue mission.

Details: In an exclusive interview with The Athletic, Conte stated that there are many clubs that have somewhat lost sight of their history, and that he would like to go to one of these clubs to dust off that history and make it shine once more.

The 57-year-old Italian has been a free agent since June, when he and Napoli agreed to terminate his contract a year early despite him delivering the club's fourth Serie A title in 2024/25 and the Supercoppa Italiana in December. Conte explained his departure candidly, admitting he had failed to bring unity to the environment and that competing without it had become impossible. In the same interview he reflected on the growing financial mismatch in modern football, noting the gulf between England's spending power and the rest of Europe, a theme he knows intimately from his title-winning spell at Chelsea and his turbulent stint at Tottenham. His romantic talk of fallen giants will set pulses racing at several sleeping institutions across the continent. Conte has already been linked with Manchester United, where Michael Carrick's position has come under scrutiny, while AC Milan and Juventus have also monitored the situation, knowing his CV reads like a firefighter's handbook: five Serie A titles with three different clubs, a Premier League crown, an FA Cup and a reputation for instant impact wherever he lands.

It's worth noting that Conte is the first manager in history to win the Serie A title with three different clubs, having conquered Italy with Juventus, Inter and Napoli. His record at Napoli, 52 wins in 91 matches with a Scudetto in the cabinet, suggests that whichever sleeping giant secures his signature is unlikely to wait long for silverware.
