Details: Wim Fissette worked with Osaka until the beginning of the 2022 season. Prior to that, the Belgian coach trained other renowned athletes, including Kim Clijsters, Simona Halep, Angelique Kerber, and Victoria Azarenka.
Under his guidance, Osaka won the 2020 US Open and the 2021 Australian Open before taking maternity leave. During this time, Fissette coached Zheng Qinwen, but after Osaka's return to the court, he resumed working with her, leaving the Chinese player’s camp.
Osaka reflected on their partnership in her Instagram post announcing the split. Currently, Patrick Mouratoglou is being mentioned as her potential new coach.
Quote: "Four years, two Grand Slam titles, and a ton of memories.
Thank you, Wim, you're a great coach and an even better person. Wishing you all the best."
Reminder: Since her return to the court, Osaka has been striving to regain her former level, but over the past eight months, she has not achieved the same success. She managed to defeat a top-10 WTA player, Jelena Ostapenko, but has yet to reach the second round of a Grand Slam this year.
This summer, Osaka re-entered the top 100 of the WTA rankings and is currently ranked 75th.
