Dominican International Mariano Díaz Emerges as Target for Getafe
Mariano Díaz could make a return to La Liga next season, with Getafe reportedly eyeing the free agent ahead of the summer transfer window. The 30-year-old striker has been without a club since leaving Sevilla FC last July, and according to ABC, the Madrid-based side is considering him as a low-cost reinforcement for their attacking line.
Although Mariano struggled for playing time at Sevilla, Getafe believes he still has the potential to be a valuable asset, especially if he finds the right environment to regain confidence. The former Real Madrid and Olympique Lyon striker is seen as a player with experience and proven quality when in form.
One of the main factors attracting Getafe is that Mariano would arrive on a free transfer, fitting their financial framework. However, a key hurdle remains: his salary. During his time at Real Madrid, he earned a significant wage, and any potential deal would require him to accept a substantial pay cut.
While no formal talks have started, Getafe is closely monitoring his situation. Should the striker show willingness to adapt to the club’s conditions, he could become a realistic signing for coach José Bordalás.
