Hopes for a dramatic improvement in Mircea Lucescu's health have collided with a harsh reality.
Details: According to Emanuel Roşu, the previously scheduled surgery to connect Lucescu to an ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) system will not take place.
A medical board has concluded that the 80-year-old's body is simply too weakened after suffering a heart attack and subsequent complications. Such a complex surgical intervention poses an enormous risk: doctors fear that Lucescu's fragile condition would not allow him to survive the procedure itself.
To recap, the legendary manager, who just last week was still at the helm of Romania's national team, was hospitalized following a heart attack. He is currently in critical condition.
Reminder: Earlier, reports from Turkish media claimed Mircea Lucescu had died, but this information has not been confirmed.
