Dismissal of Pape Thiaw: the government puts pressure on the Senegalese Football Federation

The governing body of Senegalese football, which decided to part ways with the Teranga Lions’ head coach, is expected to bear the financial consequences of its decision alone.

Senegalese football has been in crisis since the national team’s participation in the World Cup, which was hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. With head coach Pape Thiaw having been sacked on 11 July, tensions remain high.

A standoff appears to have broken out between the Senegalese Football Federation and the Ministry of Sport. The government is reported to have taken a stance regarding the departure of the former Senegalese international.

According to information from journalist Mansour Loum, the Minister for Sport has informed the Senegalese Football Federation that the state will not cover the compensation payable in connection with the termination of Pape Thiaw’s contract. The Ministry believes that this responsibility lies solely with the Federation, which decided to part ways with the manager of the Lions of Teranga.
