Atlético Madrid coach Diego Simeone hinted at a potential return to Serie A during a press conference ahead of the match against Borussia Dortmund.

“I have a contract (until 2027 ed.) here for the next few years, so I can’t give a date, but I intend to return to Italy, because I felt good and at Catania I learnt a lot as a coach.” Simeone said.

The experienced Argentine manager spent six months of his coaching career in Italy (from January to June 2011), where he successfully led Catania. Over the years, there has been speculation linking him with a return to Serie A, with potential destinations including his former clubs Inter and Lazio.

Simeone has been at the helm of Atlético since 2011, guiding the team to two league titles. On Wednesday, April 10, Atlético will host Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals.
