Former Real Madrid midfielder and world champion Angel di Maria is set to extend his contract with Benfica, after last year's agreement expired on 30 June. But the 36-year-old player is also welcome at the club of his childhood.
Thus, the Argentine was making his first steps at the club Rosario Central, which intended to invite him back, but according to club president Gonzalo Belloso, Di Maria refused the offer:
"After threats against his family, he informed us that he started to doubt the possibility of coming, that he didn't feel safe. He was going to make a decision at the end of the Copa America. On Saturday afternoon, we talked and he told me about his decision that he did not feel a guarantee of safety for himself and his family," - quotes Belloso ESPN.
Recall that Di Maria's contract with Benfica expired during the Copa America, at which the midfielder triumphed in the national team of Argentina.
