Determination. Ethiopia aims to host AFCON 2029
Although the application process has not officially opened yet, the first country has already declared its candidacy to host the 2029 Africa Cup of Nations.
Details: On Tuesday, October 22, during the 46th General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced that Ethiopia is vying to host AFCON 2029.
In response to this significant announcement, CAF President Patrice Motsepe welcomed the country’s initiative:
Quote: “This is a magnificent country, and under the leadership of President Haile Selassie, it aims to improve its football infrastructure. As a founding member of CAF, Ethiopia has always played an important role. We will evaluate their proposal when the time comes and thank them for their hospitality,” said the head of the African organization.
It’s worth noting that Ethiopia has previously hosted the prestigious African football tournament in 1962, 1968, and 1976.
Additionally, Senegal recently decided to withdraw from bidding to host the 2029 Africa Cup of Nations.
