On Saturday, December 9th, Real Madrid traveled to face Real Betis in the 16th round of La Liga.
Both teams had an active first half, creating several opportunities to score. On the 17th minute Brahim Diaz even managed to put the ball in the net, but it was disallowed due to offside.
In the second half, the teams exchanged goals. On the 53rd minute, Jude Bellingham put Real Madrid ahead after a smart pass from Diaz.
However, Betis didn't give up and managed to equalize. Aitor Ruibal struck from a distance, beating Andriy Lunin. There were no more goals in this match.
Real lost important points in the race for the top spot. The royal club still leads Girona by one point, but the Catalan team will play their Round 16 game against Barcelona on December 10th. Betis currently sits in seventh place.
On December 12th, Carlo Ancelotti's team will play against Union Berlin in Berlin as part of the 6th round of the Champions League group stage. Reminder, Real Madrid has already secured a place in the tournament's playoffs from the top spot.
