In the quarterfinals of the Coppa Italia, the main Rome derby, Derby Capitolino, took place with Lazio facing Roma.

During the match, a very unpleasant incident involving a player from the "Wolves" occurred. In the 76th minute, José Mourinho made a substitution, replacing Edoardo Bove with El Shaarawy. As the 21-year-old midfielder was leaving the field, a glass water bottle was thrown at him from the stands, hitting him in the back. Bove did not fall, but briefly sat on the turf. After a few seconds, he got up on his own and left the field.
