Flamengo is facing serious challenges in negotiations to extend the contract of head coach Filipe Luís. Despite impressive results—victories in the Brazilian championship and the Copa Libertadores—the partnership between the parties may come to an end in the near future.
According to journalist Vene Casagrande, the coach's agent, Jorge Mendes, has set financial demands that the club's management considers unacceptable. The proposal includes a salary of 5 million euros per year, as well as a release clause in the contract that would allow foreign clubs to buy out the coach for a relatively modest sum.
Flamengo's management found these demands excessive and refused to accept the proposed terms. If he leaves the Brazilian club, the former Atlético Madrid defender could continue his coaching career in one of Europe's top leagues, where interest from clubs across the continent is already emerging.
