Details: Today, the official page of Brazil's Fluminense on X announced that the legendary 45-year-old goalkeeper Fábio has extended his contract with the club until 2027.
Fábio joined Fluminense in January 2022 from Cruzeiro as a free agent. He has played a total of 261 matches for Fluminense, conceding 249 goals and keeping 109 clean sheets.
In 2025, despite what is considered an advanced age for a footballer, Fábio played an impressive 74 matches for the club across all competitions.
His unwavering dedication to his craft has earned admiration from fans and even rivals alike.
Fluminense stated that renewing their partnership with Fábio is a great honor for the club:
"Fábio has written stories here that seemed already written. He arrived at Tricolor at 41, with a distinguished career behind him.
Against all odds and statistics, he kept lining up for matches, collected titles, broke records, and in 2025 became the footballer with the most appearances in the history of the sport. And one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
His goalkeeping talent and devotion to his work have brought him here. Fortunately, in the colors of our club.
But this story is far from over. Fábio and Fluminense have agreed to extend the contract until December 2027. Thank you for everything, idol. It's a great honor for us." the club's statement reads.
With Fluminense, Fábio has achieved major success and shattered records. He surpassed 1,390 career appearances, overtaking England’s Peter Shilton to become the player with the most official matches in the history of world football.
In the past, Fábio has played for clubs such as Cruzeiro and Vasco da Gama.
