AC Milan midfielder Luka Modrić is expected to remain with the Italian club for the 2026/27 season. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the 40-year-old Croatian is leaning toward staying with the Rossoneri, despite last season's disappointing finish and the team's failure to qualify for the Champions League.

Modrić’s one-year contract with Milan expired on June 30. The deal included an option to extend for another season, but that clause has now lapsed, making the midfielder a free agent at the moment.

In recent days, the likelihood of Modrić staying at Milan has significantly increased. While a final decision is yet to be announced, the club’s management is keen to retain the veteran playmaker.

Reports suggest that Modrić himself was pleased with his first season at San Siro, despite a lackluster end to the campaign. Another factor in favor of continuing his career in Italy is his family: according to Italian media, his daughter is thriving with Milan’s U13 team and is happily developing within the club’s youth system.
