Decision made! Gattuso makes final call on Mauro Icardi transfer
Lazio head coach Gennaro Gattuso has decisively put an end to speculation over a potential move for star Argentine striker Mauro Icardi.
Details: Lazio boss Gennaro Gattuso categorically denied reports that the club could sign 33-year-old Argentine marksman Mauro Icardi. The Italian coach stressed that the Rome-based club is not in contact with the experienced striker, who is a free agent following his departure from Galatasaray.
The coach gave a blunt and concise assessment of his team’s attacking options:
“We will not sign Mauro Icardi. We have Pinamonti, and we are not negotiating his transfer.”
Gattuso made it clear that he is completely satisfied with Andrea Pinamonti’s commitment and goalscoring output, making the striker a key part of his plans for the current season.
Mauro Icardi knows Italian football inside out after successful spells with Sampdoria and Inter Milan, where he twice finished as Serie A’s top scorer. Having completed a four-year stint in Turkey, during which the Argentine netted 77 goals in 134 appearances for Galatasaray, the forward is exploring various options for the next chapter of his career. However, there is no place for him in Gattuso’s project.
Reminder: Mauro Icardi is close to returning to Italy! Who is vying for the striker?
