Deano van Rooyen praises Nkosinathi Sibisi's leadership abilities! Deano van Rooyen

As Bafana Bafana gear up to take on Mozambique in an international friendly, Orlando Pirates defender Deano van Rooyen has opened up about teammate Nkosinathi Sibisi’s understated yet impactful leadership style.

The match, scheduled for Tuesday, June 10th at Polokwane’s New Mokaba Stadium (19:30 kickoff), will see Sibisi don the captain’s armband after being rested in South Africa’s goalless draw against Tanzania last Friday.

Van Rooyen on Sibisi’s Leadership: Actions Over Words

Van Rooyen, who earned his first Bafana cap in the Tanzania fixture, described Sibisi as a leader who lets his performances do the talking.

He’s not the most vocal guy off the pitch, but once he steps onto that field, it’s a different story,” said the Pirates full-back. “His leadership shines through his actions—his commitment, his composure, and the way he organizes the backline. That’s the mark of a true captain.

The 24-year-old, who played the full 90 minutes in his international debut, emphasized how Sibisi’s presence elevates the team’s defensive solidity. He doesn’t need to shout to make an impact. His performances speak volumes, and that’s exactly what you want from a leader.”

With Broos rotating his squad for the Mozambique clash, all eyes will be on Sibisi as he steps into a pivotal role for Bafana Bafana.
