De Jong must show desire to stay at Barcelona on the pitch

Barcelona have expressed their intention to extend Frenkie de Jong’s contract, but according to reports, the Dutch midfielder must also meet certain conditions for the deal to go through.

Details: According to Mundo Deportivo, while both sides are keen on a contract renewal, De Jong's performances on the pitch have been underwhelming. As a result, he will need to deliver at a high level in the decisive part of the season and align his salary expectations with the club’s offer.

It has previously been reported that Barcelona have no intention of letting De Jong leave for free in 2026. If negotiations do not progress, the club is prepared to put him on the transfer market this summer.

Reminder: Barcelona’s sporting director recently spoke about the club’s transfer plans for the summer.
