David De Gea explained why he spent a year away from football
Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea left Manchester United at the end of the 2022/23 season and spent a year away from football.
A few days ago, De Gea signed a contract with Serie A team Fiorentina. During a press conference, De Gea explained his year-long absence from the sport.
"Manchester United is a top club, and my heart will always be with them. I never thought about retiring; it was just difficult to find motivation for a new chapter after 12 years at such a top club like Manchester United. I finally felt that motivation with Fiorentina," David shared.
It was previously reported that he signed a one-year contract with an option for an additional season and has already completed his medical examination.
Last season, Fiorentina finished eighth in Serie A and reached the final of the Conference League, where they lost to Olympiacos.
