Dani Alves is set to face a trial for a case involving alleged sexual assault in February
On the 5th to 7th of February 2024, the renowned Brazilian footballer, Dani Alves, will stand trial in Barcelona on charges of sexual assault, as ESPN reported.
The 40-year-old Alves has been in custody without the option for bail since January 2023 when he was arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a woman in a Barcelona nightclub. In August, the judge overseeing the case formally charged him. The prosecution in the capital of Catalonia is seeking a nine-year prison sentence for Alves.
All requests for Alves' release on bail have been rejected by the court, considering the risk of him fleeing Spain.
Alves is accused of assaulting a woman in the bathroom of the Sutton nightclub in the Catalan capital on December 30, 2022. Allegedly, the Brazilian invited the victim into the restroom and engaged in a sexual act without her consent.
Previously, reports suggested that the potential victim of the assault agreed to accept compensation of 150,000 euros from Alves. Consequently, the former Barcelona player may receive a reduced sentence.
