Former Formula 1 mechanic Marc Priestley has shared stories of how motorsport superstars let loose during their downtime, reports The Sun. He recounted how Michael Schumacher enjoyed himself at parties during race weekends or after the end of the season.

Priestley, who worked as a mechanic for McLaren between 2000 and 2009, has fond memories of those times.

"Schumacher got very serious when it was time to work, in the car or with the engineers, but outside of that he always knew how to relax and I was always impressed with that. Schumacher always threw great parties, there were many occasions of doing karaoke in Japan after the final race of the season in Suzuka. Dancing with his shirt off in nightclubs," Priestley revealed.

He also recalled a moment when he playfully splashed Bacardi and cola in Schumacher's face, which amused the German champion.

Priestley noted that athletes of the past could enjoy parties freely without worrying about being photographed and instantly exposed online. Modern racers, he added, don't have the same luxury.

It’s worth noting that Schumacher is soon to become a grandfather, as his daughter recently announced her pregnancy.
