Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Darrell Armstrong has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, Dallas Morning Post reports.

According to the publication, Armstrong struck the woman multiple times with a firearm and threatened to shoot her during an argument in their Dallas apartment. The police report states that Armstrong was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the incident. The dispute began after his partner discovered a message from another woman on his phone.

The suspect was arrested without incident. A firearm was recovered during a search of the apartment, which Armstrong consented to.

The Mavericks were notified of the situation and issued an official statement saying they are gathering information about the incident. Armstrong has been suspended from his role pending the outcome of legal proceedings.

Armstrong previously played in the NBA, representing teams such as the Orlando Magic, New Orleans Hornets, New Jersey Nets, Indiana Pacers, and Dallas Mavericks between 1995 and 2003.
