CS Sfaxien’s hopes in the CAF Confederation Cup ended on Sunday after a 1-0 defeat to Tanzania’s Simba SC at the Stade Taïeb Mhiri in Sfax. The Group A Matchday 4 clash saw Jean Othwa score the decisive goal in the 34th minute, securing Simba’s place at the top of the group.
Sfaxien began the match with attacking intent, creating their first chance in the 12th minute through Hazem Haj Hassan. However, Simba’s disciplined defense thwarted the hosts’ efforts and gradually gained control of the game.
Othwa took advantage of a defensive blunder in the 34th minute to break the tie, and Simba gave the visitors a vital lead at halftime.
In the second half, Sfaxien attempted to equalize but was unable to penetrate Simba's well-prepared defense. In the 84th minute, Omar Ben Ali had a chance to tie the score, but his shot went wide. A minute later, through Kibu, Simba came very close to doubling their lead, but the chance was lost.
This outcome places Simba at the top of Group A with nine points, while Sfaxien is at the bottom with zero, so excluding them from the competition. As Simba considers moving on to the knockout stages, the Tunisian team will play their final games for pride.
