Cruzeiro Eyes João Paulo as Goalkeeper Concerns Grow
João Paulo’s time at Santos may be coming to an end. The 29-year-old goalkeeper has lost his starting spot to Gabriel Brazão and is now attracting interest from Cruzeiro. According to Diário do Peixe, the Belo Horizonte-based club recently reached out through sporting director Alexandre Mattos to inquire about João Paulo’s availability, although no formal offer has been made yet.
Cruzeiro’s interest stems from the underwhelming performances of Cássio, the experienced keeper signed from Corinthians to be the club’s number one. His inconsistent form has raised doubts and prompted the search for a reliable alternative. João Paulo, despite his long-standing ties to Santos, has only featured twice this season under head coach Pedro Caixinha.
Frustrated with limited playing time, the goalkeeper is reportedly open to exploring opportunities elsewhere in Brazil. While no move is imminent, a formal bid could be made during the summer transfer window.
