Cruz Azul is reportedly in talks to sign Serbian forward Luka Jović from AC Milan as a high-profile reinforcement for the upcoming Apertura 2025 season. According to ESPN, with additional reporting from Goal and Mediotiempo, the Mexican club has initiated contact with the player’s representatives. Jović’s contract with Milan expires on June 30, potentially paving the way for a free transfer.

Should the deal materialize, it would mark a major statement by Cruz Azul. Not only because of Jović’s pedigree—including stints with Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt—but also because he would arrive at no transfer cost. Milan retains the option to extend his contract automatically, but if they decline, Cruz Azul is prepared to move swiftly, either through a loan with a purchase clause or a direct acquisition.

Jović, 27, rose to prominence in Germany before his high-profile but ultimately underwhelming move to Madrid in 2019. While he saw limited action with Los Blancos, he has regained some rhythm at Milan this past season. For Cruz Azul, bringing him in would address potential gaps in their attack, especially amid speculation surrounding the departure of Giorgos Giakoumakis.

The club has recently dealt with Milan, having secured Luka Romero on loan, which could help smooth negotiations. Though the deal is still in early stages, expectations are already building. Cruz Azul seems determined not just to compete, but to lead—and a signing like Jović would send exactly that message.
