Cruz Azul Defender Omar Campos Set to Miss Rest of Clausura Due to Injury
Cruz Azul have been dealt a significant blow in the closing stretch of the Clausura 2025 campaign, as left-back Omar Campos is expected to miss the remainder of the tournament due to injury. The club announced on Monday that Campos has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 medial collateral ligament (MCL) sprain, sustained during their recent match against Chivas at Estadio Jalisco. The news was reported by Mediotiempo.
Campos came on as a substitute in the 77th minute of the match and suffered the injury shortly after, following a slide tackle. The playing surface at Estadio Jalisco had been criticized for its poor condition, having hosted a motocross event days prior. That situation likely contributed to the defender's misstep and subsequent injury.
According to the team’s medical staff, Campos is already undergoing specialized rehab. Recovery from a Grade 2 MCL sprain typically takes four to six weeks. In the best-case scenario, he could return for a possible Play-In or quarterfinal match. However, if his recovery takes longer, he may only feature again if Cruz Azul reaches the final or during the upcoming Leagues Cup and Apertura 2025 preseason.
Cruz Azul now face the final rounds of the tournament without one of their key defensive options on the left flank.
