Crespo Returns to São Paulo and Prioritizes League Survival
Hernán Crespo was officially introduced as São Paulo FC’s new head coach, marking his return to the club after four years. As reported by SBT Sports, the Argentine manager made it clear that his top priority is improving the team’s standing in the Brasileirão, where they currently sit in 14th place.
“The first step is to take things day by day, match by match,” Crespo said during his unveiling at the Morumbi. “The urgent matter is the league. We need to compete and collect points to stay calm. Copa Libertadores and Copa do Brasil are knockout tournaments—anything can happen. But right now, the focus is the league.”
Crespo’s first stint in 2021 was highlighted by a long-awaited Paulista title. This time, he emphasized hard work over promises: “There’s no magic formula or guaranteed winner’s manual. We have to work, compete, and be ready to win when the moment comes.”
The squad will resume training on Thursday, June 26. Crespo’s debut match is set to be against Flamengo at the Maracanã in Matchday 13 of the league, with the exact date pending due to Club World Cup scheduling.
