Aston Villa concedes in the first half against Salzburg.

Details: Tonight, in the 8th round of the Europa League at Villa Park in Birmingham, the local Aston Villa hosts Austrian side Salzburg, and things aren't going smoothly for the hosts in the first half.

Despite Aston Villa controlling possession for most of the time, it was the Austrian visitors who struck first. After a disastrous giveaway by an Aston Villa player, Salzburg launched a swift attack that set up Karim Konaté for a shot. While his effort seemed far from perfect, Aston Villa defender Victor Lindelöf made matters worse by inadvertently deflecting the ball into his own net.

Lindelöf made a questionable decision, essentially redirecting Konaté's cross straight into the goal himself. Nevertheless, the official match report credited the goal to Karim Konaté.

At the moment, the score remains 0-1 in favor of Salzburg, who absolutely must win tonight to reach the playoffs. For Aston Villa, however, this match holds no tournament significance.
