CPL Week 10 Recap: Altobelli strikes again, Ottawa fights back, wildfire haze in Winnipeg
Week 10 of the Canadian Premier League delivered dramatic comebacks, breakout performances, and more twists in the standings. York United claimed a vital 2-0 victory over Halifax Wanderers in Québec City, with Julian Altobelli netting his seventh goal of the season and Steffen Yeates sealing the win. Altobelli now leads the Golden Boot race alongside Sam Salter and continues to thrive as York’s talisman.
In Langley, Atlético Ottawa erased a two-goal deficit to draw 2-2 with Vancouver FC, as Salter and David Rodríguez —who returned from suspension with a goal and assist— led the charge. Ottawa remains unbeaten when Rodríguez is in the squad and has rescued a league-best 13 points from losing positions.
Valour and Pacific played to a scoreless draw in Winnipeg after a two-hour delay due to wildfire-related air quality concerns. Both sides struggled for rhythm, with Pacific now goalless in their last three matches. Meanwhile, Forge and Cavalry drew 1-1 in Hamilton in a tight, high-intensity match. Nana Ampomah scored for Forge, who remain the league’s only undefeated team.
Ottawa tops the standings with 18 points, Halifax Wanderers has 17, while Forge and Cavalry trail with 14. The Golden Boot race is heating up with Salter and Altobelli in front, and Rodríguez continues to shape games as the league’s most influential playmaker.
