CPL Week 8 Recap: Valour Finally Wins, Wanderers Bounce Back, Cavalry Run Riot
Matchday 8 of the 2025 Canadian Premier League season delivered drama, breakthroughs, and a few loud statements. Valour FC finally tasted victory after a come-from-behind win over York United, while Halifax Wanderers and Cavalry FC continued to build momentum with commanding performances at both ends of the pitch.
Valour ended their winless streak with a 2-1 home victory against York. After conceding early to Gabriel Bitar, Kris Twardek leveled with a stunning strike from distance before Kelsey Egwu netted the late winner, redeeming himself after last week’s poor showing. The win lifts Valour off the bottom—York now sit last, winless in six.
In Halifax, a lightning delay helped the Wanderers regroup and come out with renewed intensity. Ryan Telfer scored shortly after play resumed, and Tiago Coimbra added a second late on. It was a vital rebound after their first loss of the season, with Halifax showcasing sharper possession play and counterattacking threat.
Cavalry FC dominated at home, dismantling Pacific FC in a ruthless display. Mihail Gherasimencov opened the scoring with a rocket, while penalty conversions by Tobias Warschewski and Ali Musse put the result beyond doubt. A final blow came in stoppage time with a free-kick goal from Lasse Wähling. Pacific looked overwhelmed from the start, as Cavalry’s pressing and precision proved too much.
