The 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup continues Wednesday with a Group A clash between Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. As reported by Concacaf.com, this marks the first time the two teams meet in the tournament’s history, with both nations arriving under different circumstances.

Costa Rica enters the match following a dramatic 4–3 win over Suriname in their opener. Alonso Martínez and Manfred Ugalde gave Los Ticos an early lead, only to see Suriname respond with three unanswered goals. Josimar Alcócer equalized in the second half, and Ugalde sealed the win from the penalty spot in stoppage time. Veteran goalkeeper Keylor Navas delivered several crucial saves to preserve the result.

With a win, Costa Rica would be well on track to reach the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, the Dominican Republic seeks its first-ever Gold Cup victory after narrowly losing 3–2 to Mexico. Peter González and Edison Azcona scored late to spark a near-comeback, while goalkeeper Xavier Valdez impressed with five key saves.

Historically, Costa Rica has won both previous meetings: a 4–0 friendly in 2013 and a 4–1 victory at the 1990 Central American and Caribbean Games. The Dominican side now aims to make history on Wednesday night.
