Ramón Díaz Fired by Corinthians Just Weeks After Paulista Triumph
Ramón Díaz has been dismissed as Corinthians head coach, just three weeks after leading the club to a Campeonato Paulista title. According to La Nación, the announcement came on Thursday following a 2-0 loss to Fluminense in the fourth round of the Brazilian Serie A, which left the team with just four points from twelve available and under pressure in the Copa Sudamericana.
The official statement from Corinthians confirmed that Díaz and his entire staff—including Emiliano Díaz, Bruno Urribarri, Osmar Ferreyra, and fitness coach Diego Pereira—have left the club. Corinthians also noted that they had not contacted any replacement prior to the decision, and that U-20 coach Orlando Ribeiro will lead Friday’s training session.
Despite the recent state championship win, the team's form deteriorated sharply, including a home defeat to Huracán and a draw against América de Cali in the Sudamericana. Internal tensions were also evident. Memphis Depay, one of the team's star signings, openly criticized the tactical setup, questioning the lack of compactness and intensity during matches.
Díaz took charge in July 2024 and oversaw 61 matches, registering 30 wins, 16 draws, and 13 losses. His repeated requests for reinforcements went largely unmet, with left-back Fabrizio Angileri being the only arrival this year. The Argentine coach seemed increasingly isolated, and the team’s stagnation in both domestic and continental competitions ultimately led to his departure.
Corinthians now face Sport Recife at home this Saturday and a key Sudamericana clash against Racing (Uruguay) next Thursday—both without the manager who delivered their latest title.
