MMA star Conor McGregor has decided to enter politics and recently officially announced that he will run for the presidency of Ireland. Currently, he expressed his opinion on his X page regarding the customs duties imposed by the USA on various countries.

Recall that Donald Trump announced a 10% tariff on imports from the United Kingdom. Meanwhile, Ireland, which is part of the European Union, has been hit with a 20% tariff. This is exactly what McGregor did not like.

“The fact that we are charged twice as much as the UK is an insult!” stated the Irishman.

McGregor also stated that Ireland should contact the USA directly regarding the tariffs to establish its own terms, independent of the EU. He urged Ireland and the USA to treat each other fairly and even suggested leaving the European Union if negotiations are unsuccessful.

It is noted that such statements by McGregor can be considered open criticism of Trump, whose administration he had previously boasted full support for. It is suggested that this could even mark the end of their friendship.
