Confusion has erupted over Wilfred Ndidi’s availability for Nigeria’s crucial 2026 World Cup play-off final against DR Congo, following a report suggesting his earlier yellow card may have been cancelled. The midfielder was expected to miss the match after receiving his second caution in Nigeria’s dramatic 4–1 extra-time win over Gabon. But a new claim has cast doubt over the suspension.

Journalist Osasu Obayiuwana hinted on X that FIFA may have informed CAF that Ndidi is eligible to play. He wrote that sources told him CAF had been notified of the “cancelled” yellow card from the regular World Cup qualifiers, adding:

If it is actually true… why is @thenff unaware of this? Wouldn’t FIFA also notify them? Strange stuff… I hope things are clearer on Saturday.

The report has stirred unease among Nigerian fans, especially as neither FIFA nor CAF has issued any public statement. According to Obayiuwana, the NFF has also received no official communication confirming any reversal.

Before this development, it was widely understood—particularly from Soccernet.ng’s reporting—that Ndidi was ruled out. Nigeria’s head coach Eric Chelle had even acknowledged the midfielder’s absence and discussed possible replacements such as Raphael Onyedika or Frank Onyeka.

Ndidi was booked in just the sixth minute against Gabon but played the remaining 120 minutes without incident, earning praise from supporters for his discipline and composure.

The uncertainty matters deeply for Nigeria, as Sunday’s clash against a strong DR Congo side—who knocked out Cameroon—promises to be physical and demanding. Ndidi’s presence would significantly strengthen Nigeria’s midfield and defensive structure.

With only hours to go, Nigerians are hoping for clear communication. If FIFA has reversed the disciplinary decision, official confirmation must reach both CAF and the NFF. Until then, the Super Eagles continue preparations with cautious optimism.
