Chelsea's bitter reaction to losing Rio Ngumoha has resurfaced as the Liverpool youngster continues to impress in Europe.

Details: According to reports originally published by The Athletic in October 2024, Chelsea refused accreditation requests from Liverpool scouts seeking to attend academy matches at their Cobham training centre. The restrictions reportedly followed the departure of Rio Ngumoha, who joined Liverpool in September 2024 at just 16 years old.

The talented winger had been considered one of Chelsea's most promising academy players, and the London club reportedly made several attempts to convince him to stay. However, Ngumoha opted for a move to Anfield, believing Liverpool could offer him a clearer pathway to first-team football.

The dispute also reportedly affected Manchester United scouts, whose accreditation requests were similarly rejected. Chelsea denied being the first club to introduce restrictions, while Liverpool disputed claims that they had blocked Chelsea representatives. Importantly, no formal ban was issued by any of the clubs involved.

It's worth noting that Ngumoha has since developed into one of Liverpool's most exciting young talents. According to StatMuse, the 18-year-old winger leads the Champions League in successful dribbles this season, completing 15 across three appearances in the 2026/27 competition.
